Geography Cat is the hardest working feline in geography. He writes a blog and people all over the world send him postcards.

KATNISS: Are we allowed to know your real name? I’m assuming that “Geography Cat” is just your public purrsona.

GEOGRAPHY CAT: You’re right, I am a cat of many names. The Prince of Purrs. Cuddles MacFusspot the Third. El Whiskario. The list goes on, but for the purrposes of my work in this field and on my website, Geography Cat is the purrfect moniker.

KATNISS: Why are you so interested in geography? Is it because you see Humans looking at cat videos on their devices instead of discovering the world around them?

GEOGRAPHY CAT: That’s purrt of it. Geography is so incredibly interesting and varied, but it’s also good fur you! It’s been purroven that learning something, getting connected, being more active and taking notice of your surroundings can help impurrove your well-being.

KATNISS: Purrsonally, you don’t like to travel. So tell me about your travels in your own home. Where do you like to sleep? On top of maps and paperwork?

GEOGRAPHY CAT: It’s a terrible shame for a geographer to get so travel sick! But I do love the outdoors. I have trained my human assistants to open the kitchen window for me. I love roaming around my garden. I instructed my female Human to plant lots of flowers so that the buzzies come, and she’s done a great job. I even purrsuaded the male Human to put a bird table in the middle of the lawn! When I’m indoors I like to chill out on top of a map if she’s left one out. Sometimes she draws her own maps and I find it very relaxing to spread out on one of those.

KATNISS: Tell me about your postcard purroject.

GEOGRAPHY CAT: If you send a postcard to me(ow), then you’re giving and sharing your expurriences not just with me but with all my fans around the world. Just like you Katniss, I believe that cat-hosted social media is a furce for good, and helps to spread love and compassion.

KATNISS: You have received over 2,500 postcards from Humans all over the world! Very impurressive!

GEOGRAPHY CAT: When I receive a card, I write a blog post about the location and add in some new geographical learning. My fans love to see their postcards featured on my Paw Print Map.

KATNISS: Any favfurite cards you’ve received?

GEOGRAPHY CAT: I really like cards with cats on them, and landscapes, architecture, art, maps, trains, and… well, all of them! I must mention the signed photo that Sir David Attenborough sent me! He’s so inspurrational and a total hero of mine.

KATNISS: Do you receive postcards from other cats?

GEOGRAPHY CAT: Of course! I’ve had lots of postcards from my feline furiends across the globe, the most famous ones would probably be Felix the Huddersfield Station Cat, Larry the Downing Street Cat, and Frisky le Rouge. Not to mention the thousands of feline followers who sign the postcards their Humans send in! I’d love to receive one from you Katniss, you could tell me all about your home town.

KATNISS: I was born and rescued in Los Angeles, California! And yes, I will send you a postcard!

GEOGRAPHY CAT: I’m looking furward to receiving it!

KATNISS: I know you are a serious purrfessional, but I have to ask – what are your favfurite toys?

GEOGRAPHY CAT: Oh! I have a squeezy globe that I like a lot, a feathery stick, and a little grey mouse toy that has lost its tail. But my most favfurite object in the whole house is the side of the sofa. I have been working on it for several years now and I’ve nearly destroyed it to my complete satisfaction.

KATNISS: Fun!

GEOGRAPHY CAT: Another one of my favfurite games is to disappear for hours without telling my humans where I’ve been.

KATNISS: Hey, you’re exploring the world.

GEOGRAPHY CAT: Exactly!
